A Gift of Gold

Dale Valberg recently made a unique donation to the Foundation – a 1977 Krugerrand gold coin.

The Krugerrand, made of 22-karat gold, contains 1 troy ounce of pure gold. Back in the 1970s, it was the go-to gold investment coin because it offered an easy, tangible way to own gold.

While the Krugerrand is technically legal currency, it doesn’t have a printed face value. Its value is tied to the amount of gold it contains and the current gold market price.

Mr. Valberg received the coin in 1982 from his employer in recognition of his sales achievements. Recently, he found the time was right to pay it forward. The Foundation’s board accepted the generous gift which was then sold to a private collector. The proceeds of the sale were added to the Valberg Family Fund, helping further the Foundation’s important work.

>>> Dale Valberg delivered a gift of gold to WACF board members in September. Proceeds from the gold Krugerrand coin were added to the Valberg Family Fund at the Foundation, furthering the Valberg’s legacy of local giving here in Watertown.
