Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Community Foundation?
Community foundations are tax-exempt public charities serving thousands of people who share a common goal of improving the quality of life in their area.

Individuals, families, businesses and organizations create permanent charitable funds that help their communities meet the challenges of changing times.  The foundation invests and administers these funds.

All community foundations are overseen by a volunteer board of leading citizens and run by professionals with expertise in knowing the needs of the community.

How are your assets invested?
The Watertown Community Foundation has two trustees; Great Western Bank and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. for investment purposes.  The Watertown Community Foundation board established the investment policy and the assets are invested in a balanced manner for income and long-term capital appreciation.

What is Philanthropy?
Philanthropy, by definition, means to be charitable for the betterment of mankind.  We view philanthropists as ensuring a lasting and stable resource for the support and development of Watertown.  The Watertown Community Foundation provides services for everyone to invest through gifts of any amount.
